What is Collarspace?
You know Collarspace if you were born in the 2000s. Collarspace actually looks a lot like Myspace with profiles and biographies. One major difference? Collarspace is completely dedicated to the BDSM community.
Collarspace was created with the aim of creating a place for people who love BDSM. BDSM is a term that refers to everything related to bondage, discipline and masochism. It is a diverse community with tons of fetishes.
Collarspace is primarily a place where members of the BDSM community can meet others with similar interests. It seems to be a place for people who are open-minded and have specific fetishes. They place a lot of importance on keeping it safe, sane, and consensual. They expect to be tolerant of other users.
The entire website has been undergoing a major overhaul. Fern, who is the author of The Domme Chronicles, a well-known blog about BDSM, expressed concern over the site. Fern expressed concern about the site, noting that it had been taken over by another website and that she was still waiting to be approved for a different account.
You’re probably a member of the BDSM community and have been curious about this dating social network site. Some very negative reviews have been surfacing so I did some research to find out more about Collarspace.
How it works
Collarspace has received mixed reviews from me. Collarspace is a mixed bag. Some love it, some don’t. So what’s the deal with Collarspace?
The website’s old-school design is obvious the first time you visit it. It is emulating Myspace’s social media site, and it seems they are embracing the 2005 website design. The web design is very basic and not that impressive, to be blunt.
The front page features a featured “personal advertisement” post as well as a list of users from your local area. You can also use the search function to find information in a complex way with many advanced filters. A sidebar lists all locations that you can search for BDSM connections.
Another thing you will notice about this site are the photos. You will see nude photos on the homepage. Before creating an account, you can view the profiles of other users. Most users have uploaded erotic photos.
The signup process will be covered in more detail later in this article. But let’s just say that it is almost impossible to create an account. To find out how the user experience was, I used Reddit. To be truthful, I didn’t find many glowing reviews. Many Collarspace users complain that most profiles are scams or catfish.
Most people who chime in about their Collarspace experiences had a terrible time. Female dommes seemed to have the only silver lining. Some women have succeeded in finding submissive men through Collarspace.
It seems that the problem is due to the fact that the website was purchased by another company several years ago. The signup process was made more complicated after the takeover and many users were turned away from the site. You can’t do much on the site without an account. The site is available for browsing, and you can view the profiles. But that’s it.
How do you join?
This is where the problems start. Collarspace’s signup process is notoriously difficult. It seems simple at first. It is easy to follow the steps. Alt.com will redirect you automatically. This website is completely different.
This really confused me. I returned to Collarspace to search for a link to sign up. I tried to contact a user by going to their profile. I couldn’t find any link on the website to sign up for Collarspace.
After extensive research on the website, I finally found what I was looking for. Clicking on the tiny link “support” at the bottom of this page took me to a page with a link to the Collarspace sign-up page.
Although the sign-up process was easy, there is one major caveat. Your application must be approved and reviewed before you can create an account. People across the internet claim that this process can continue indefinitely. It doesn’t appear that any new users have been approved since at least one year.
Alt.com seemed to be the only viable option. I signed up for Alt.com and continued my search. It was very easy. I held onto a sliver of hope that Collarspace might redirect me. After verifying my account via an email link, I was officially granted an account. This account was not available for Alt.com or Collarspace.
Alt.com’s first page is a payment page. Let’s take a look at the following:
- I tried to create an account on Collarspace, but was directed to Alt.com instead.
- I created an account.
- I was again directed to a payment page for Collarspace.
What does all this mean? It’s making Collarspace look terrible, and I hate to admit it. If you aren’t already a Collarspace member, you might have trouble joining. It is confusing and long-winded to sign up for a website that’s completely different. I was not happy with the automatic redirect to a payment page.
Alt.com also caters to members of the BDSM community. It is less community-oriented that the Collarspace website. It does not have a resource page or links to help people learn more about BDSM. It is more like an adult-chat website.
Alt.com is free to browse and view profiles, pictures and other information. You will need to upgrade to a paid membership if you wish to communicate with the users at any time. The cost of this service is quite high, as you will see in the next section.
Pricing
Collarspace claims that Collarspace is free to use. This promise is true up to a certain extent. Yes, you can browse and view profiles, as well as access resources, for free. You must create an account in order to communicate with other users. We have just mentioned that Collarspace does not offer an option to create an account. Alt.com pricing information is available here:
Gold Plan:

For 3 months, $14.99/mo
$19.95 for 1 Month
Silver Plans:

Alt.com offers a paid plan that allows you to message other users, view videos and access large photos. You will also receive better customer support and priority results when searching for information. This site is not highly regarded and the price is prohibitive.
Cool Features:
- View erotic photos: One of the best things about this site is the ability to view erotic, BDSM-themed pictures absolutely free. All you have to do is visit a profile to view all the photos. You can’t message the profile unless you create an account.
- Collarspace’s Resource Page: This page contains a lot of resources for the BDSM community. You will find educational videos explaining common terms in the community. There are also resources for safety, health, and etiquette.
General Opinion
Collarspace was not a good experience for me. The website appears promising at first glance, even though it is a little outdated. It seems to be a basic website with a thriving BDSM group. Although it may have been once, the website no longer functions in that manner.
Collarspace seems to have no way to create an account. This website is a clever ploy to redirect members of the BDSM community to Alt.com. Alt.com appears to be operating Collarspace, and using it to attract new members. This is not a good sign for either website.
Alt.com is a paid BDSM online dating site. For a site that isn’t very popular, the prices are quite high. Alt.com is easy to sign up if you’re willing to pay the steep price. This aside, Collarspace seems to be inaccessible to new users.
Collarspace is no longer legitimate, folks. Although Collarspace was once a vibrant online community for BDSM enthusiasts, it is now dead. One Reddit user said that Collarspace was dead. This website is dominated by scammers.
